The left bar turns into a menu if your screen is less than about 500 pixels wide, so if you're on a desktop making the window bigger will bring it back.

Not exactly sure what you're referring to. You'll receive an e-mail when a new game starts. You can also go to the "All My Games" link and see all of your games, anything on move 1 is new.

Re: Match requiring a minimum rating

His rating probably dropped after he joined the match. The issue with allowing people to block people with a lot of time out is that everyone would do it, and those people would never be able to play with that account again, so they'd just create a new account. At least with the current system you k...

Re: Forfeits and move time limit

A flag button wouldn't be a bad idea. For abandoned games, I've usually just decreased their time to about 10 days so they time out soon, but I've been considering the idea of flagging the game as abandoned, and forcing the player to make a move before they can do anything else in any other games.

I do not publish a list of the highest rated players anymore. When I did, it just encouraged people to sign up with multiple fake accounts to manipulate their ratings.

The standard time control here is 30 days + 2 days per move, and that's what that game is set to. You can create a match with no add time if you want.

Re: Domain name expiry

It'd be at least a matter of the cost of the domain name, and the server it's running on, plus at least a little human administration. I didn't think there was much activity on them, if there really is a significant amount of interest I can run them from the net-chess.com server.

I'm working on it. Moving into a new house and trying to move the whole site to a new server first to take care of the recent crash issues we've had. If it helps, most browsers have a zoom feature, usually accessed by holding the control key and using the mouse scroll wheel.

We'll be moving to a new server over the next couple of weeks. For the most part you shouldn't recognize any significant changes, the site will be unavailable for about an hour or so during the final move. The upgrade should provide more stability.

I try to stay true to the rules, and only implement automatically enforced rules when they'd require a lot of my time otherwise. There are no automatically enforced rules under the USCF, the only way a game can be drawn is either the two players agree to a draw, or one of the players request that th...
